Have Toothbrush, Will Travel

I love my electric toothbrush. My dentist always comments on how clean my teeth are when I go for a checkup, and (touch wood) I haven’t needed any treatment for ages. I believe my electric toothbrush should take all the credit.

However, when I travel I have trouble charging the thing. It has a UK shaver plug. I’ve tried adaptors galore, but have never been able to successfully charge it on the road, unless I’m at a posh hotel with a dedicated shaver charger in the bathroom (and that rarely happens – even rarer these days).

So, as the battery charge dwindled on my current electric toothbrush and before I was forced to use a manual one, I decided to hunt out a better alternative.

Luckily, in Amsterdam there is a shop dedicated exclusively to dental care…most notably, toothbrushes. I know, right? There’s even a note on the door telling us such…

…and a very enthusiastic (one might even say passionate) women behind the counter. What she doesn’t know about toothbrushes and brushing ain’t worth knowing. She even has a little model for demonstration purposes.

Needless to say, I shelled out on the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean. It charges via USB and is my new best friend. Oh, and a lot cheaper to buy in Amsterdam than it is in London it seems.

One thing I love about travelling is the little unforeseen problems that present themselves. Usually, in the most unlikely of places, lies a solution.
